When Kanye West went through a highly publicized breakdown and began spouting incoherent nonsense and anti-Semitic slurs, adidas felt compelled to end the collaboration. The last Yeezy models were sold off from warehouses at rock-bottom prices, and the sublabel was shut down for good.
And as controversial as Kanye became toward the end, the joint label had brought the Three Stripes immense revenue, which has now left a gaping hole. While the brand has fashion icons like Wales Bonner and Pharrell Williams at the helm, it lacks a hype man à la Yeezy. This naturally leads to the idea of poaching a celebrity or two from the competition—perhaps even from the Swoosh.
Will we soon see the first Travis Scott sneakers with 3-Stripes?
If the rumors are to be believed, the Houston-based rapper has been offered a lucrative deal from Herzogenaurach. The timing couldn’t be more fitting, as his brand, Cactus Jack, has already explored every possible avenue with Jordan and Nike. There’s little that’s new; the same old design elements haven’t generated any hype for a long time, and innovative silhouettes like the Jumpman Jack are overlooked and quickly forgotten. At adidas, the rapper might be offered the opportunity to further pursue his fashion ambitions and break free from purely sportswear and streetwear pieces.
Because that’s exactly how it went with Kanye West. The rapper was lucky enough to design a T-shirt for the Swoosh, while adidas provided him with an entire design team that created collections season after season, just like at classic high-fashion labels. At the time of this article, however, some are already claiming that a potential offer from adidas is merely a rumor and that Jordan Brand and Nike intend to hold on to their hype man. Either way, the discussion makes one thing clear: something has to change. Travis Scott’s collections at Nike don’t have the same “larger-than-life” potential that Kanye had back in the day at adidas. And if crisis management doesn’t kick in soon in Oregon, rumors could very quickly become reality.
Release of the next Travis Scott x Nike collaboration
On September 20 of this year, we can look forward to yet another very special collaboration between Travis Scott and Nike—one that many sneakerheads, collectors, and Travis fans have surely been waiting for for quite some time—the Fragment x Travis Scott x Nike Air Jordan 1 Low OG Military Blue. It was designed in collaboration with Japanese designer Hiroshi Fujiwara, who has been one of the most influential figures in the sneaker scene for decades. Following the 2021 release, this could be the third—and possibly final—colorway from Travis Scott and Fragment on the Jordan 1.
